What is a Cajón?

A cajón is a box-shaped percussion instrument originally from Peru, played by slapping the front or rear faces with the hands, fingers or sometimes various implements such as brushes, mallets or sticks.

What Takes Place In The Class? 

The class is a 45 minute, engaging group drum and music class that creates opportunities for individual skill development, social skill development, community skill development and multicultural experiences.

  • Students will learn the fundamental technique and patterns of playing the cajón
  • Students will play rhythms, sing, move their bodies to music, listen to new musical styles and perform with different styles of music on their instrument.
  • Students will learn and interact with a diverse array of musical instruments for classical and various ethnic traditions.
