The past two years have given us a new appreciation for a lot of things: teachers, childcare professionals, people who stay home when they’re sick, parents, hand sanitizer. We at Musication wanted to extend that appreciation to the heart and soul of our program: our students! We asked a few of our students to weigh in on lessons, their favorite artists and more. We hope you’ll enjoy this new series: Student Interviews. This week we hear from Sol & Max!

Where do you live?
Prospect Heights, Brooklyn
What instrument do you play?
Piano
How long have you been taking lessons?

Who’s your favorite artist to listen to right now, or what’s your favorite song?
It depends on my mood when I’m being asked the question. Right now it’s Emergency, by Pegboard Nerds.
What’s your favorite song to play on your instrument?
That’s a tough one! Probably a tie between Snow Scene and Crossover.
What do you enjoy most about playing an instrument and taking music lessons?
It’s a good hobby to have. It’s nice to know: I can play the piano, and that’s a talent I have!
What’s the hardest thing about playing an instrument?
Sometimes it can get frustrating if you keep making the same mistakes on a song, or you are having a rough day (unrelated to playing your instrument) and it ends up feeling like a chore instead of something you actually want to do.
Ok, last question, and we know this is a super funny/crazy one! If you had to magically turn yourself into an instrument, what instrument would you turn yourself into and why?
A synthesizer. Because I can make a wide variety of sounds and it would make life more interesting if I had to be a musical instrument. Being a synthesizer would be on of the most active instruments, and I’d like that.
Check out Max’s chops on the piano!
